Current Activities

The Practical Justice Initiative builds on interdisciplinary research strengths across UNSW Arts & Social Sciences including a commitment to informing social change and understanding the impact of globalisation in relation to development, security and rights.

Current research streams include climate justice; the social aspects of health and illness; and gender, sexuality and justice.

As the Initiative develops, its scope will expand to embrace other important cutting edge issues including:

  • peace and development
  • justice, education and rights
  • social welfare and social change
  • working with vulnerable and hard to reach communities
  • issues affecting the environment

Within the Initiative, research activities are complemented by regular Faculty-wide thematic seminars, a Practical Justice lecture series, a Distinguished Visitor scheme, and support for relevant meetings and conferences.
